Abstract

The second double issue of the eleventh volume of our journal continues the tradition to cover both contemporary dimensions of everyday Africa, as well as different stories and pieces of a rich cultural heritage of the Africa of the past. Zoltán Illés and Judit Bagi again help us in this venture, as they offer articles on the state formation and transformation of the South Sudanese state and on the policies that focus on women’s political participation in Uganda after the 2016 elections. Viktor Marsai and István Tarrósy publish a summary of a recent national conference on Africa-related topics, including African Studies. József Brauer-Benke writes about the lamellophones, Szilárd Biernaczky deals with the origin story of the Luba people, both of them also providing abundant photo illustrations. We also share with you the full programme of the 5th Pécs African Studies Conference to be held in May 2018, then, close this issue with a English-language book review by István Tarrósy. We hope you will enjoy them, and will support us in the coming years, in particular, as the Hungarian Journal of African Studies has been selected a C-category journal of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences this year.
