Abstract

This study is based on a research carried out in 2011. It investigated that what’s the role of the local high-visibility festivals in the sustainable development and what are the audiences and organisers of festivals belief as well. This survey which is not representative and has been applied quantitative and qualitative method (in its structure) follows British researches. This survey was carried out first in 2006 by Claire O’Neill who is a co-founder of a campaign group called „A Greener Festival” and the research was continued in the subsequent years. This recent study, in addition to describing the results of the local survey is also compares the British and Hungarian festivals’ role in the sustainable development, such as determining the environmental impact as well as the audience’s and the organizers’ opinion about this case.
