Abstract

The revolution in information technologies has led to spectacular changes both in telecom and media sectors. As a part of these changes the boundaries between telecommunications and the media are really blurring and numerous telecom players have entered the media scene around the millennium. This paper addresses the issue of why and how telecom operators entered the electronic media markets and tends to the conclusion that providing audiovisual and other electronic media services seems to be a rather significant part of telcos’ business strategy.
