Consuming Herbs and Herbal Products in Hungary

Abstract

This is a period of revival of learning on herbal products. Demand for herbal products seems to be increasing continuously. There is a significant lack of precise secondary data in this field of marketing. It is hardly possible to gain detailed information on production, marketing, consumption and using of herbal products. Complexity of using herbs has not been discussed in detail concerning importance of them for pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetic industries.
This paper reviews some basic results of a survey on consumer behaviour for herbs and herbal products including buying motivations among Hungarian consumers. Finally, some recommendations are proposed for increasing level of awareness and sales of herbs and herbal products in Hungary.
